Job Summary
The Makete District Council is inviting applications from Tanzanian citizens to fill thirteen (13) vacancies for the position of Driver Grade II. These positions are within the local government public service and involve driving official government vehicles, ensuring proper maintenance, and supporting transport logistics within the council’s operational framework. Drivers play a vital role in enabling government activities by transporting staff, documents, and equipment safely and reliably.
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities under the direction and supervision of their immediate supervisors:

Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Vehicle Inspection:
Conduct thorough inspection of the assigned vehicle before and after every trip to ensure its roadworthiness and mechanical safety. This includes checking brakes, oil level, tire pressure, lights, and other essential systems. -
Official Transportation of Staff:
Drive government officials and other employees to various destinations as assigned, especially for official fieldwork, meetings, or inter-departmental errands within and outside the district. -
Minor Vehicle Maintenance and Repairs:
Perform basic maintenance and minor repairs on the vehicle such as changing tires, replacing fuses, adding fluids, or reporting mechanical problems that need professional repair. -
Collection and Delivery of Official Documents:
Safely and promptly deliver and collect various official letters, parcels, forms, documents, or packages between government departments, offices, institutions, and other designated locations. -
Record Keeping – Travel Log Book:
Diligently fill in and maintain a trip logbook, documenting all trips made, fuel usage, destinations, passengers transported, time of departure and return, and any observations or issues encountered during the journey. -
Vehicle Cleanliness and Hygiene:
Ensure the assigned vehicle is kept clean both inside and out at all times. This includes regular washing, vacuuming, and interior maintenance to ensure the vehicle presents a professional appearance. -
Other Assigned Duties:
Carry out additional tasks as may be assigned from time to time by a supervisor or other senior officers. This may include participating in government events, attending training, or supporting other departments.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must fulfill the following minimum academic, professional, and experience requirements to be considered for this position:

Academic Qualification:
- Must possess a Certificate of Secondary Education (Form IV).

Driver’s License Requirement:
- Must hold a valid Class E or Class C driving license, which has been used practically on the road for not less than one (1) year.
- The applicant must have no history of causing a road accident during that period of driving experience.

Technical Training:
- The applicant must have attended and completed Basic Technical Training in Motor Vehicle Mechanics or Driving, obtained from VETA (Vocational Education and Training Authority) or any other institution recognized by the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania.

- High level of integrity and responsibility
- Good interpersonal skills and teamwork
- Physical fitness and ability to work under pressure
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Basic understanding of motor vehicle operations
