Job Overview / Summary

The Momba District Council is inviting applications from qualified, experienced, disciplined, and reliable Tanzanian citizens to apply for employment opportunities to fill the six (6) vacancies for the position of Dereva Daraja la Pili (Driver Grade II). This is a full-time public sector role under permanent terms in accordance with the Government of Tanzania public service employment procedures. Main Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidates who will be appointed to the position of Dereva Daraja la Pili will be expected to perform the following roles and responsibilities:

  1. Daily Vehicle Inspection:
    Conduct a thorough inspection of the assigned government vehicle both before and after every journey. This is to ensure the vehicle is in good mechanical condition, clean, and safe for road use.

  2. Transporting Employees:
    Drive government employees and other authorized individuals to and from various destinations for official duties, meetings, workshops, and other government-related assignments within and outside the region.

  3. Minor Vehicle Maintenance:
    Carry out small-scale or routine maintenance tasks such as changing oil, checking water and brake fluid levels, and replacing worn-out parts, if necessary, to ensure the vehicle remains in good running condition.

  4. Distribution of Documents and Parcels:
    Responsible for the collection, delivery, and dispatch of official letters, documents, and other parcels between offices, government departments, and institutions as instructed.

  5. Journey Record Keeping:
    Diligently fill out and maintain an official government vehicle logbook (daftari la safari) for every trip undertaken. This includes recording travel dates, destinations, time of departure and return, mileage covered, and fuel usage.

  6. Vehicle Cleanliness:
    Ensure that the vehicle remains clean at all times, both internally and externally. Regular cleaning is required to maintain a presentable and healthy working environment inside the vehicle.

  7. Other Duties as Assigned:
    Perform any other job-related duties that may be assigned by your immediate supervisor, head of department, or other authorized officials of the council, especially duties in line with logistics and administrative support.


Minimum Qualifications and Experience Required

To qualify for this position, an applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Education Level:
    Must possess a Certificate of Secondary Education (Form IV Certificate).

  • Driver’s License:
    Must hold a valid and active Driver's License of Class E or C, and must have practical driving experience for not less than one (1) year without having been involved in any road accident during that time.

  • Technical Training:
    Must have attended and successfully completed basic vocational training in driving or motor vehicle mechanics from a recognized vocational training center such as VETA (Vocational Education and Training Authority) or any other institution recognized by the Government of Tanzania.

  • Personal Attributes:

    • Good discipline and integrity
    • Strong understanding of traffic laws and road safety
    • Physical and mental fitness
    • Reliable and committed to work
    • Ability to work under minimal supervision
    • Willingness to work outside regular working hours when necessary

Salary and Remuneration

  • The successful applicants will be employed under the Government of Tanzania salary scale TGS B, which includes a basic monthly salary, allowances as per public sector guidelines, and access to other government employee benefits such as health insurance, pensions, and annual leave, in accordance with public service regulations.
